Dedicated to Strengthening Families through Education The Orange County/UF Extension Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) programs provide solutions for your life. Whether you need help solving problems related to nutrition, food safety, food preservation and storage, wellness, financial management, consumer education, hurricane preparedness, mold and mildew prevention, maintaining a healthy home, or parenting – the Orange County team of Cooperative Extension Family & Consumer Sciences’ professionals can help. Extension agents provide information and programs that link research, knowledge and technology to help you solve problems. Orange County/UF Extension professionals offer a variety of educational methods and opportunities to help you acquire and put knowledge to work for you, your family and your community. Educational opportunities include newsletters, television segments shown on Orange TV, learn-by-mail correspondence courses mailed to your home or work place, workshop sessions held at the Orange County Extension Office, or programs taught at your workplace or in your neighborhood. FCS Extension agents are willing to teach programs to meet your individual needs in school or community settings for groups of 15 or more. The length of these out reach programs are flexible in length, ranging from 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on the groups’ schedules and needs. Healthy, Safe and Efficient Homes, Post Purchase Homeowner Workshops and Financial Wellbeing extension programs help homeowners increased their knowledge about indoor allergens and potential toxins in the home, how to take action to create a healthier home environment, learn to mitigate a delinquency or foreclosure action, and educate limited resource audiences on topics of budgeting and financial resource management.
Food safety and nutrition concepts are delivered through extension educational program to include the use of household appliances Food Safety training for people employed in the food service business is offered through ServSafe™ and Safe Staff™ programs. Food Preservation has become a central focus in the past several years as people are preserving food security and wellness.
Physical Inactivity can lead to many health problems such as obesity which is known to cause many chronic diseases. Extension educational programs are designed to motivate and support healthy lifestyles among residents, on the importance of increasing physical activity to lower short and long term health risks, and to improve our personal health and well being by eating right and keeping food safe.
